Epic Shredding of Destruction Battle at Board CityBy:norm stovall
From: EU
On Sunday, July 29th, Board City skateshop in Orange Park became a haven for plastic axe-weilding rockers determined to take first place in the Guitar Hero competition known as the “Epic Shredding of Destruction Battle (80s Edition).” Tournament goers came from all over North and Central Florida to square off in Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s, a game that has only been on store shelves for about a week.
In addition to the competition, people were encouraged to dress in 80s garb to get a dollar off of the door fee, which ended up bringing in a many different personalities, including the ultimate local mock metal band, Mega Kill, who all showed up in some kind of 80s Gear. Billy, a local fan favorite, even showed up wearing two costumes in one: Miami vice on top, and when the white sports coat got too hot, he stripped down to his shorts and Twisted Sister T-shirt.
Play wise, the tournament went smoothly, with the exception of me kicking a cord out on one TV, killing a match that was going down. Sorry! In the end, Orlando’s Joey Rosenburg took 1st prize, which included a cash prize of $78, A Board City T-shirt, and a Guitar Hero guitar case. The Best Dressed prize went to Ben, aka “Dan Steel”, who came dressed as an 80s rocker, sporting a blonde wig and white jeans. In the end, the Tourney went well without any hiccups, and we all appreciate the effort from the people who came, including the host, Board City, and Hungry Howie’s of Orange Park, who provided free pizza for everyone. Thanks, and we will see you guys this fall for Guitar Hero 3!
