Orlando in a Nut Shell
Haley Reep

It’s always fun to get away for the weekend, but don’t do what I did. The trip to Orlando was awesome, minus the constant bickering and fighting for no reason that went on between four of my girlfriends. I can’t believe that girls can pick fights over that many stupid situations. Thank God there were eight of us because we made a clean break from that group and formed our own alliance. The hotel was so nice. We stayed at the Royal Pacifico on-site of the Universal Parks. We squeezed all eight of us into one room. Six girls and two boys. I brought an air mattress, so that made it a little better. The people who slept on the air mattress were probably more comfortable than everyone in the beds because we slept three deep. I’m pretty sure the air-conditioning wasn’t working right the first night either because it was unbearably hot. I was pumping up the air mattress the first night too, and the pump stopped working half-way through getting blown up, so the people that slept on it basically slept on the floor. No worries though, because we only got about 2 hours of sleep the first night anyway. We didn’t make it to City Walk until 11, so we had to make the best of the night. The Bob Marley bar was amazing. Unfortunately the weather was horrible, but we made the best of it. After the bars we decided to go for a swim. The pool closes at 10, but we found a way in and hung out for about an hour. When I got back to the hotel room, one of my friends was already passed out. One girl made friends with a door man at the Bob Marley bar, so she was gone. I heard a knock at the door around 5:30am and it was her!

The boys woke up at 6:30am and started their day. I tried my hardest to get more sleep, but by the time 9 o’clock rolled around, I was wide awake. Two of the girls and myself managed to kick everyone out and sleep an extra couple of hours, but the boys came back and yelled until we finally got up. We got dressed and trekked to the park and rode some rides. One of the girls that came doesn’t even ride roller coasters, or anything for that matter because she was afraid of anything that dropped, went fast, or spun, which cancels out pretty much everything. After about 10 beer stops and cigarette breaks I was way over waiting for those girls. This is when the groups of four developed because I was there to ride rides, not get trashed before lunch. By 3 o’clock, the rain came. I had to compete in my dance competition at 6, so we finished up our last rides and went back to the hotel for some delicious food. Next thing I know, I get a phone call from one of the girls that was still in the park. She thought she lost her ID, so she made all of the girls go with her to guest services to find it. One of the boys had her ID, that she gave to him, the whole time, and I told her he had it when she called. I got to my dance competition later that day, and one of my teammates said she saw four of my friends standing in front of guest services screaming at the top of their lungs at her, while she cried. WOW… I didn’t even know what to say, especially when none of them showed up to the competition.

I got back to the hotel room furious because my girlfriend that actually did come watch, I didn’t make the boys come, said the girls went on a joy ride to the liquor store and that’s why they weren’t there. The hotel room was absolutely trashed. Everything was on my credit card, including the $300 deposit, so I gave the girls my best mom impression of the I’m disappointed with you girls speech I could conjure up. My group of normal people left them to eat at the Olive Garden, yum, and when I got back the room was spotless. I was happy to see the attempt, so we all started partying together. We made friends with the maintenance guys, Mario and Luigi, and they let us go in the pool again, but this time it was allowed. I had to compete again the next morning, so I went to sleep early, around 2:30am. To my surprise a couple of people stayed up and they had a great time, which I could see was obvious from the pictures they showed me the next morning. After the competition we attempted to ride more rides, but the rain came again. I slept the entire ride home, bitter because no one offered me any money for the room I spent over $400 on. The moral of this story is, don’t travel with six girls that are going to fight the entire time over nothing, and bring considerate people somewhere so you know they will help you with expenses. I take this trip as a learning experience, and I learned a lot this weekend.
